A problem with a lot of the technology today is that it doesn’t stimulate creativity in our children.

Sure there are some software programs where children can draw, color, and build things on the computer.

These are great but they don’t make your child move anything but a mouse and does not challenge them to be inventive or discover other ways to complete their project.

It’s time to get the kids up and moving around a bit.

You can open up a whole new world with some basic creative activities for children. It is very simple and inexpensive.

Crayons

Crayons are an age old favorite. I don’t know anyone who never had crayons as a kid.

Some ideas include:
Rubbings. Put a thin sheet of paper over an object like a leaf or coin, peel off the paper from the crayon and rub the side of the crayon on the paper that is over the leaf. Kids love this.

Life-size kid. Tape some paper together to make one big piece. Have your child lay down on top of the sheet and outline them with a crayon. Let them then color themselves however they want.

There are now Crayola Crayon Maker melting kit available to be able to mix several colors together into one crayon. These are great for giving broken crayons new life.

You can find free coloring book pages online but by the time you print them it would be much cheaper to buy a coloring book. A good set of crayons and coloring book are always great toddler craft ideas and have withstood the test of time.

Chalk

Drawing with chalk lost some popularity for awhile but is now revived because of some new twists on the old art form.

If you don’t want chalk in the house, you can always get sidewalk chalk and let them go crazy on the driveway and sidewalk. Rain and/or the garden hose will clean it all away.

Paint and Markers

The folks at Crayola not only make crayons, they make washable kids paint that can be used for finger painting or with a brush. So many types and colors to choose from.

Paint supplies for kids can be purchased by each individual piece or in kits, whatever you need. You can even get an easel for them.

The nice thing about paints is that the artwork is much more permanent than most other arts and will stay nice for many years.

Stamping

Another cool arts and crafts idea is kids ink stamping. This art activity for kids is an easy and fun way for kids to create art.
